Cretaceous-Tertiary Biostratigraphy of Cyrenaica (NE Libya) Workshop
Presented by the Petroleum Research Center (PRC), the Libyan Biostratigraphy Group (LBG) and the North Africa Research Group (NARG) Conference Website
This two-day workshop aims to provide a forum for palaeontologists to discuss and evaluate the recent and new biostratigraphic findings in al Jabal al Akhdar area and adjacent areas.
The workshop will be held in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Bremen, Germany. There will be a full-day fieldtrip visiting the Jurassic-Cretaceous in the Osnabruck Hills.

Sedimentary Basins of Libya, Third Symposium: "Geology of East Libya "
This symposium will cover the sedimentary basins of East Libya and adjacent areas in neighbouring countries: Eastern Libya offshore, Sirt offshore embayment, Al Jabal al Akhdar uplift, Al Butnan Basin, Eastern Sirt Basin, Al Kufrah Basin, Western Egypt, Northern Chad and NW Sudan.
The themes of the symposium are: (1) regional geology of the basins; (2) sedimentary rocks and basin analysis; (3) source rock studies; (4) reservoir rocks of the oil fields; (5) structure and tectonics; (6) tectonic-sedimentation relationships; (7) stratigraphy, biostratigraphy and palaeontology; (8) geophysical studies; (9) igneous and metamorphic rocks; (10) mineral economics; (11) hydrogeological studies; (12) environmental and engineering geology.
There will be two simultaneous field trips after the symposium:
F1 - Mesozoic-Cenozoic rocks of Jabal al Akhdar (3 days);
F2 - Palaeozoic-Mesozoic geology of Al-Kufrah Basin and/or Jabal Az Zalmah (4 days).
Abstracts to be submitted before the end of February 2004. Abstracts should be relevant to one of the Symposium themes and the basins of East Libya (onshore and offshore) and their extensions in neighbouring countries (Egypt, Sudan and Chad). They should not exceed 300 words and should be submitted in Arabic and/or English.

1st Conference on the Microfossils Around the Tethys Margins
This scientific conference will focus on the use of microfossils as a tool for sediment dating and age delineation. Specialists in micropalaeontology are encouraged to attend to exchange knowledge and ideas on these fauna and flora, which might prove to be valuable in filling gaps in the geologic record around the Mediterranean. It also offers a good opportunity for scientists to meet and discuss their findings which may add new methods in oil and gas exploration around the Tethys.
Abstract deadline: end of June 2004.

The 3rd PESGB/HGS International Conference on African E & P:
"Africa: The Continent of Challenge and Opportunity"

This annual conference, which alternates between London and Houston, has established itself as the primary technical E & P conference on Africa.
There was a large poster programme in addition to an oral programme of about 25 high quality talks spanning all aspects of technical challenges and opportunities presented by Africa's diverse petroleum provinces.

North African Reservoirs - Integrated Formation Evaluation

The London Petrophysical Society held a one-day seminar which discussed the formation evaluation of North African reservoirs from Egypt through Libya, Tunisia and Algeria to Morocco. A large number of London based operators are active in this geographical area. Presentations were made describing reservoirs from Pre-Cambrian to the Miocene.
