Sponsorship Opportunities

Proposed Academic Projects

The following projects are fully prepared and could start as soon as suitable sponsors have been found. The projects coudl be carried out in co-operation with a single sponsor, or alternatively with a small group of sponsors. Results could be kept confidential for as long as three years, if required. Final publication of (at least part of) the results is envisaged.

Proposed: The Lower Palaeozoic of northern Arabia

The Silurian source rock is now fairly well understood in places like Libya and Jordan. On more distal ends of the northern Gondwanan shelf, however, the distribution and depositional model of the Silurian anoxic facies is still very much unclear. In the proposed project we aim to expand the Silurian source rock depositional model from Jordan towards the north and northeast into Turkey, Iraq and neighbouring areas. The project will be carried out in co-operation with the University in Ankara and possibly TPAO. Please contact me if you are interested in a full project proposal and budget plan.

Proposed: Infracambrian and Silurian source rocks of the Taoudenni Basin (Mauritania, Mali)

The Taoudenni Basin in Mauritania and Mali is a frontier basin in terms of hydrocarbon exploration. Source rock distribution and depositional genetics are still poorly understood. The proposed project aims to integrate the Silurian into the existing northern Gondwanan depositional scheme and work out any trends and differences. Similar investigations are to be carried out on the Infracambrian black shales and organic-rich carbonates. Gamma-Ray spectrometry and shallow winkie drilling may help to obtain systematically fresh sample material, that is to be analysed geochemically and biostratigraphically. The study is to be carried out in co-operation with the University of Nouakchott and the Geological Survey of Mali. Please contact me if you are interested in a full project proposal and budget plan.
